Peels of Light, Egyptian Room at the Met
My last visit to New York, I was lucky enough to visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art. My favorite exhibit may have been the Egyptian room. The room is dominated by large window panes that have an almost greenhouse feel. The design is all very Victorian and decedent. Light peels in from large windows and the entire room is lit with natural light. Shadows cast from various pillars and from the collection of artifacts. The coloration from the artifacts gives the room a yellowish and dusty feel, it's almost as if you're in Egypt. As a cool plus, the windows are facing Central Park, so you have a wonderful view of that area as well.

That is a lovely description and having never been to the Met myself, I love that i can see it through the pictures. it is beautiful :)
ReplyDeleteLove the wide windows which allow so much sunlight to filter in
I really like the large window panes too. It always give me a feeling of a more open space. There is an interesting relationship between light and space.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! And elegant! With those beautiful windows acting as skylights, it feels as though you're on top of the world...I'm surprised that the amount of natural light flooding the room doesn't damage the artifacts...Really pretty texture from the window panes on the ground as well. Breaks up the room nicely!
