Week 3 - Aldridge Park Seance

Walking along Aldridge Park sometime after midnight, as I do, I come upon an odd little shrine to our dear founder. There's a plaque in on a rock toward the back of the circle in his honor. I'm sure during the day this looks very normal, but to me now, in the middle of the night, it's all very unsettling and reminds me of a  creepy seance.

The effect is a circle of dim lights around an open area. This creates a mix of brightness and shadows on the ground and exposes some texture on in the rocks and cement. It feels almost like a sacred space or place of worship (sacrifice?). It gives me the image of a group of folks calling on the spirit of Aldridge.

Now compare this image to this. Similar kind of vibe right? :

  1. OH MY GOSH this is fabulous! I really love your image and the commentary...very unique and very lighting focused! It feels like a creepy seance to you because of the unnatural angle of light focused in a circle (which has a very traditional story telling and ritualistic/spiritual origin). Uplight or these very low angled sources of light are not usually found in nature and are often used to enhance that unnatural or on-edge feeling...and coming across this empty setting at night in a park so dark would definitely get the imagination spinning. Nice!
