Sean Deuel Week 1

This picture is of the corner of the student center. I was walking by this week and the way that the clock and anteater were chosen to be displayed caught my eye. I would have expected that someone that wanted these displays to be seen at night would have just thrown a front light on it and called it good, but instead they put thought and creativity behind it. By placing the lights behind what they wanted to be seen the designer lit up the wall and made the images displayed through their silhouette. The anteater remains recognizable and the clock is very clearly readable (not so much on my camera phone) and possibly even more so than if it had been given front light.

  1. Ahh I noticed that during welcome week when I stayed late on campus too! That is a very beautiful stylistic choice, how they decided to light the tower. :)

  3. I love the way that even architectural lighting can be theatrical! These are very stylistic choices that were chosen for a reason, for function and design! I love the 3-dimensionality that the backlight gives the silhouetted anteater as well as the clock...I like all the different choices that architectural theater has available, from different design approaches to different fixture choices! Permanent installs give you a lot of freedom to create something of quality!
